| Other Info | Saxophonist Devin Phillips, a crescent city native who relocated to Portland in 2005 following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, carries the torch of New Orleans music with vigor and bright spirit. Black & Blue is a new project and collaboration between Phillips and Portland guitarist Chance Hayden, founded to perform a thorough repertoire of early New Orleans jazz. The tradition is ever present and the history is strongly reinstated with rhythm steeped in early swing, vibrant multi-horn polyphony and a deep connection to the blues.
