Join us as we celebrate one of American Music’s greatest works, composed by Tenor Saxophone Icon John Coltrane. In Honor of Coltrane, The Devin Phillips Quartet will perform the entire four part suite “ A Love Surpreme”.
A Love Supreme is a suite about redemption, a work of pure spirit and song, that encapsulates all the struggles and aspirations of the 1960s. A Love Supreme heralded Coltrane’s search for spiritual and musical freedom, as expressed through polyrhythm’s, modalities, and purely vertical forms that seemed strange to some jazz purists, but which captivated more adventurous listeners of that time as well today.
